Minutes from the Meeting – 21st of July

Hey there fellow toastmasters,

I’m certainly looking forward to our next  TM  meeting  this coming  Monday  (4th  August)  🙂

In preparation for the upcoming fun here’s a brief reminder of what we got up to at our last meeting.

The meeting as you will all remember was very capably run by our very own Will Lo (Thanks Will)

Kevin Mitchell kicked us off with our word of the day ‘Pilgrim’/’Pilgrimage’

We then moved on at a nice pace with a very topical round robin centered around the upcoming Olympics. Our members and guests were first invited to choose between the relative
merits of synchronized swimming versus water polo and then, in a quick change of pace, between the whirling frenzies of discus versus shot put.

The pace didn’t slacken from there with an challenging round of Table topics.

i) Ajit answered all our queries regards the pros and cons of baggy pants in our modern society.
ii) Robert answered our fears concerning the pollution levels in Beijing.
iii) Carlos gave us some portents of new sports to be offered up at future Olympic games
iv) Tran presented us all with some handy tips on how to survive a freezing Melbourne winter.
v) Kumar explained to the group exactly why and how the grass is always greener for him.
vi) Yang gave us a keen insight to his private world of chocoholic addiction amongst other things 😉

It was a diverse round with plenty of laughs shared by all.

The fun didn’t end there as we moved on to the prepared speeches of our evening.

i) Robert H. introduced us to the transport method of the next century with his plans for the ‘Rocket Tram’. He was evaluated by Amelia.

ii) Craig presented us with a heart felt reflection upon a poignant chapter of his life with ‘The Crash’. He was evaluated by Kumar.

iii) Oliver gave us all food for thoughts international with an analysis of the relative merits of the two current American presidential candidates. He
was evaluated by Ajit.

iv) Finally Yang took us on his ‘Communication Pilgrimage’ with a rapidly prepared presentation on some of his recent insights into how to get along with
people and have them like you. He was evaluated by David.

AWARDS

The guest continued to confound us with their quality (another four way tie for best first timer).

Ajit took out best evaluator and table topic awards.

Craig’s speech ‘The Crash’ took out best speech (well done Craig and good luck as TM for the next meeting).

Overall a wonderful meeting,

I look forward to seeing you all there for our next one.

Kind regards,

Ben Maslen.
